In 1996, while on a business trip to London, one of the songs at the top of the charts was Virtual Insanity by Jamiroquai. I bought the long play single (vinyl) and listened to it at least a hundred times.
It’s a great song that holds up even 25 years later. The video is mesmerizing, it took the song’s popularity to new heights. It’s especially notable, considering that they didn’t use computer-generated effects. After you’ve watched it a few times, try to guess how they keep moving the floor. Give up? Search for the video of the director discussing how it was made.
For some reason, it came to mind recently, and I watched it another couple of dozen times. This time I paid closer attention to the lyrics, back then we didn’t have the Internet to look up every song ever made.
What seems to bother him, besides the environment, is the way people might choose to run away from their own race, to signal that their original skin color is inferior to another color.
In previous generations, many Jews converted to other religions. Not out of belief, or because they were searching for a “better” religion, but out of convenience. They wanted to get into a better college (there were quotas back then) or join a country club. But when I paid attention to the lyrics this time around, they took on a whole new meaning for me.
- They never imagined the insanity that is now considered “science”
- “I think it’s time I found a new religion”
- Perhaps we should just stop following the false god of the week
- The false god of socialism, which has lead to misery, death, and destruction for 100’s of millions of people.
- EVERY TIME IT’S BEEN TRIED!
- The “old” religions make more sense than ever before
- Perhaps we should just stop following the false god of the week

If you really tried to figure out how they made the video (no cheating now!), and are too lazy to search for the video, click on this link. https://youtu.be/MzwY7ii582Y for the interview with Jonathan Glazer, the director.
If you STILL can’t figure it out, here’s a video that demonstrates how it was done. https://youtu.be/8lbaXLhJDeg
